Opia explores a musical landscape of inner voices and forgotten dreams — letting go of distorted ways of thinking and seeing, and the process of forgetting and remembering that significant shifts in reality begin with shifts in one's inner world.

The title was inspired by the suffix -opia (vision, or a condition of the eye) and an alternate definition from The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows (a really beautiful book and blog if you're not familiar) — the surreal experience of looking someone in the eye, where the boundaries between inside and outside blur.

I've always been fascinated by Carl Jung's concept of the shadow and the unconscious, and I feel like various forms of shadow selves often turn up in my songwriting. Songs on Opia explore cycles of creativity and boredom, the magical and the mundane ("Humdrum"), the tyranny of your own mind ("Fire Escape," "Voice"), remembering your inner voice in a world of constant distractions ("White Noise"), and death as a constant companion to life, helping us discern what truly matters ("Horror Vacui," "Wild West").
