Reviews:
“10/10 - Ultimately, the heart and soul that was poured into this creation has come out the other side as defining master work of what doom metal is capable of. “The Loneliest Walk,” may be a hard road to take but is what that is well worth taken. I imagine most people will experience their own version of this journey so check this album out and drive into it so that you may better face the darkness when it eventually finds out.” -

“Of all the funeral beauty that came out this year, The Loneliest Walk is the most personal for me. If you have a hard time explaining to a loved one how you feel or what you are struggling with, put this record on as an icebreaker. Understand, sympathize, wear it as a warming cloak in cold days.” -

“The Loneliest Walk once again affirms why I hold Aphonic Threnody in such high regard. In fact, if anything, it raises my estimation of them even higher. This is a great album. Immerse yourself in the sadness and pain of The Loneliest Walk and fully embrace the doom.
Very highly recommended.” -

“Aphonic Threnody is one of the best examples anyone can use when referencing funeral doom. One of the reasons for that is their ability to respectfully navigate any boundaries established by the masters who’ve inspired them and still explore outside the lines. As a result, in just under a decade, guitarist and Aphonic mastermind, Riccardo Veronese has produced some of the very best funeral doom ever recorded.
The Loneliest Walk, the band’s fifth full-length release, is an outright monster. With a run time of nearly two and a half hours, the album’s length certainly contributes to the colossus. With funeral doom, length is implied, expected, and unquestionably welcome in most cases. A potential challenge for a listener, however, is sitting with the material for as long as it takes to absorb the feelings being expressed.
This sort of heaviness – extravagant, reserved, fatalistic, graceful – is a conclave of emotion. Experienced on a spectrum, an artist succeeds with a willingness to share openly and truthfully. And Aphonic Threnody can always be counted on for that.” -

“A man's life is marked by events that no one should go through, facts beyond his or her responsibility. But in this way The Loneliest Walk takes on a therapeutic character, not only for him but also for the listener. Say what you want about Aphonic Threnody, say they are real as fuck.” -

“Those who decide to devote more than two hours of their time to listening to The Loneliest Walk, obviously more than once, because this is not music that can be relegated to a superficial approach, know that will be a pleasure and not a sacrifice, as the immersion in the darkest meanderings of the psyche evoked by funeral doom can be gratifying like few other things for those who love such sounds.” -

“These first two tracks — “The Sun Will Never Rise” and “Condemnation” — are themselves massive, roughly 17 and 18 minutes long, respectively. As the track titles suggest, the lyrical themes pull no punches. They express emptiness, pain, abandonment, hopelessness, harrowing resignation, and a welcoming of death. They also express hatred and bitterness, and the desire for a peace that never seems to come.
The music pulls no punches either. It plumbs crushing depths of despair but hovers on the borderline of unearthly dimensions where fleeting glimpses of something more alluring wink in the darkness. It presents staggering, beleaguered marches led by cavernous and crackling voices, but high above, ethereal tones glisten and beautifully beckon.
The music pounds as well as moans, erects towering obsidian monoliths and weeps beneath them, becomes elegant and poignant in its wistfulness, and reveals visions of both desolate introspection and haunting splendor. In parts of the second track, fires of resilience and confusion also burn, and the music soars to magnificent but tormented heights as voices scream. Time passes, and it’s easy to lose track of the time, because these changing spells are so formidable.”

Incredibly emotional in their raw heaviness, this is what doom should be about."
