Melody-driven compositions, exciting performances and a compelling group dynamic permeate the Brad Cheeseman Group's self-titled debut. On Brad Cheeseman Group, the Toronto-based contemporary jazz ensemble (working with producer/acclaimed electric bassist Rich Brown) takes an array of talented creative voices and focuses them through eight of Cheeseman's diverse compositions. From the hopeful "Untitled" to the downcast "Waiting, Knowing," the spacious "Taiya" to the thrilling "Make or Break for It," Brad Cheeseman Group shines a light on the performers while never forgetting the heart of the music.
During the album's supporting tour, the band would perform at the 2016 Montreal Jazz Festival where it was honoured to win the Grand Prix de Jazz.
The album later won "Instrumental Recording of the Year" at the 2016 Hamilton Music Awards (with nominations in four other categories), and was also nominated for "Best Jazz Instrumental" at the 2015 Toronto Independent Music Awards.
Brad Cheeseman is a JUNO-nominated bassist/composer creating melody-driven contemporary jazz.
