Rhyddheir 'Eneidiau' iw lawrlwytho ac ar 'finyl' yn unig ar y label Recordiau Bopa ac yn ddigidol drwy wasanaeth Pyst. Dyma'r tro cynta' i Burum ryddhau albym ar feinyl, ac fel 'anoraks' jazz mae'r ffurf yma yn gweddi i'r dim i'r gerddoriaeth. Ma Suo Gân yn berfformiad grŵp hollol reddfol, sydd ond yn awgrymu'r alaw adnabyddus ac sydd yn dwyn naws cerddoriaeth trosgynol Alice Coltrane a Pharoah Sanders.

Burum (meaning 'yeast' in Welsh) release their fourth album entitled 'Eneidiau' [Spirits] in July 2022. 'Eneidiau' will be released on vinyl only, in a new venture for Recordiau Bopa, and for download and digitally through the Welsh distribution service Pyst. Burum continue to develop their band 'sound' by interpreting Welsh folk songs and this album is another milestone for Welsh jazz.
Led by Tomos Williams (Khamira, Cwmwl Tystion) on trumpet and Daniel Williams, his brother on tenor sax, Burum are joined for the first time on 'Eneidiau' by Patrick Rimes (Calan, Vri), a young virtuoso multi-instrumentalist who's a real force on the Welsh folk scene. His bag-pipes and various whistles immediately places the band's music in a different world to the usual jazz quintet/sextet. Dave Jones (piano), Aidan Thorne (bass) and Mark O'Connor have been stalwarts of Burum and the Welsh jazz scene for years, and bring their customary musicianship and taste to the recording.
Having been awarded a 'Covid Kickstarter fund' from the Genesis Foundation, Burum went to Giant Wafer Studio, Llanbadarn Fynydd, Mid-Wales for a weekend in early September 2021, as covid rules were slackened to create new music and to record the album.
'Cariad Cywir' ('True Love') a tale of unrequited love, is given an energetic reading, with a distinctive bag-pipe solo that immediately sets the Burum sound apart. The lullaby 'Suo-Gân' (meaning 'lullaby') is a group performance that only hints at the well-known melody and is inspired by the transcendental and meditative music of Alice Coltrane and Pharaoah Sanders that has become popular of late.
The centerpiece of the album is the Suite of melodies 'Eneidiau' (Spirits), inspired by the art of Jewish refugees (Heinz Koppel and Joseph Herman) who fled to Wales during WWII. The Suite consists of the Welsh folk tune 'Bugeilia'r Gwenith Gwyn' (Watching the Wheat), a French/English 'galliard' and some Jewish harmonic colours to finish. Patrick Rimes' flute, Daniel Williams' sax and Dave Jones' piano demonstrate how jazz and folk can intertwine naturally in this performance.
Side B begins in a completely different sound-world with a Miles in the Sky inspired performance of 'Pibddawns Dowlais' (Dowlais Hornpipe). Not your usual performance of a hornpipe! A completely improvised, extended reading of the ancient Welsh melody 'Myn Mair' (Oh Mary) finishes the album.
Keith Jarrett's 'Survivor's Suite' was an influence on Myn Mair and the European Jazz of figures such as Polish trumpeter Tomas Stanko permeats the whole abum.

Burum have been playing together for over 10 years and the empathy and friendships that have developed over this time shines through in the music. Burum are a band, with a distinctive band sound - not a collection of individuals simply playing together. They have previously released 3 CDs (Alawon, 2007, Caniadau, 2012 and Llef, 2016), and have toured India twice, performed at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient, France, numerous times as well as at Brecon and Teignmouth Jazz Festivals.
Burum's repertoire is drawn from Welsh traditional music, adapted and re-imagined for a modern jazz sextet. The band's music fuses a deep respect for the original folk melodies themselves with the flexibility and dynamics of jazz improvisation - beautiful, melancholic melodies are performed alongside fiery solos and deep grooves.
