"Some people say this ain't black music. Well it ain't. It's black precision. And I'm as precise as they can be." – Channel Tres

After a run of high-profile feature appearances with Tyler, The Creator, Disclosure, Robyn, Ty Dolla Sign, Tinashe, SG Lewis and others, Channel Tres returns to his signature Compton house sound – the artist's unmistakable blend of the rhythms of Detroit and Chicago with the slurry snarl of West Coast rap.

"Acid in My Blood" and "Ganzfeld Experiment" are the first taste of Channel's upcoming live performance at the Coachella Festival this coming April. A double a-side vinyl release, it challenges the traditional signposts of supposedly 'black' dance music and embraces the alternative narrative put forth by artists like Drexciya and Detroit's Underground Resistance. The new music is more techno than house, rawer and louder, leaning into the Drexciyan concept of black precision to tell personal stories of alienation.

"Acid" is about being so out of your mind on the dancefloor that you worry you might get yourself beat up. "Ganzfeld Experiment", which was written partly via the Burroughs cutup technique, uses the concept of telepathy to dissect the breakdown of a romantic relationship. Both records were produced with Godmode's Nick Sylvester, who helmed Channel's first two EPs, and are driven by a modified 909 drum machine designed by the Latvian company Erica Synths.

"Acid/Ganzfeld" are the first installment of Channel's next vision of Compton dance music, which will culminate in his debut full-length at the end of 2022. Over the course of this year, a series of limited run 12" releases will enlarge the scope of what it means to make 'black' music.

"Acid/Ganzfeld" arrives via Godmode, the company behind acts like JPEGMAFIA, Yaeji, and PawPaw Rod.

Channel Tres grew up in the Compton neighborhood of Los Angeles. His voice is effortlessly deep, as if Barry White didn't realize he was Barry White. 'Controller' is Channel's debut single, out 4/17 on Godmode (Yaeji, Shamir). It's classic Detroit House, reimagined with the surly attitude of West Coast rap.
