From high above, atop the highest peak of the tallest mountain, grows a shrieking plant that the locals call Malesa, a spanish word that means “weeds”, if we allow ourselves a slight adjustment in spelling. But far from being an undesirable growth, the duo formed by Paola Avilés and Eloi Petillon represents a promise we wish to see flourish in all its glory.

Between epic drone, enchanting trip-hop ballads, and club tracks written under the moonlight, they release a hybrid and elusive debut album that still remains accessible to all. "Sal y sangre" (Salt and Blood): two alchemical ingredients mirroring love and madness; two crucial elements for crafting a fantastical world, where stone giants, snake tongues, mad dogs and unfaithful feathers meet at the crossroads. Thus, a symbiotic relationship between fantasy and reality rise up and transmute in the music itself, in which digital sound design techniques cohabits with field recordings and acoustic instruments from the tangible world.

With a sense of poetry and esotericism, Malesa unveils a magical chiaroscuro work, spelling invitations to dance and invocation rituals which seamlessly succeed each other in a strange coherence. Bewitching anyone who dared to pull it out, the weed definitely takes root for good and will soon be ready to whisper its magic to the clouds…
