Speedy J and Chris Liebing need no introduction – they’re unarguably two of techno’s most revered artists and DJs. Following Speedy J’s ‘Red Shift’, ‘Magnit EP’ continues a collaboration aimed at going beyond the current standards, blurring the lines between live performance and digital DJing, fusing subversive electronics and peak time techno.
While each has their unique style in production and performance, it’s common to both to lead a trail of Techno superlatives.

Since the early nineties, Speedy J released on labels like Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8, Warp and Novamute, Chris Liebing featured Eye-Q, Fine Audio Recordings, and Mute. Both now run their own imprints and event platforms, Electric Deluxe and CLR / Spinclub.

After the critically acclaimed first release ‘Red Shift’ (edlx.001), ‘Magnit EP’ will be a release in two parts. The digital release includes two additional tool versions for each track. This reflects the way Speedy J and Chris Liebing have been performing since the start of their collaboration. The vinyl release in will feature both tracks.

Joining forces, they combine masterly experimental sound manipulation and design with peak time techno drama, creating magnificent main floor magnets.

Both with now two decades of live and production experience, Chris Liebing and Jochem Paap (aka Speedy J) started working together in 2001, and pioneered blurring the lines between live and DJ performance as they fused Traktor and other software technology on 4 laptops with hardware such as Machine Drum and 303’s to create a fully integrated set: the live Collabs session.

They brought back the innovative spirit which was once at home in this genre and opened up an infinite resource, improvising with the widest array of sounds. This logically led to introducing the concept of creating DJ sets and productions with “parts”, like loops, samples, basslines, sound effects, or any conceivable combination of these.

Musically the focus is a highly danceable and energetic sound, much like the sets the audience knows from them as individual performers, but even more dynamic, varied and adventurous, easily keep the audience at high alert through performances lasting for 4-hours and longer.

Not only setting the bar for peak hour Techno madness, Electric Deluxe again becomes the platform for open minded artists showcasing the value of creative synergy using newest technology, this time injected with the experience and expertise unique to Speedy J and Chris Liebing.

From humble beginnings the boutique label has blossomed into a first-class station for electronic music that’s both functional and thought provoking. It has become the home for established artists to experiment beyond their usual parameters, a testing ground for new projects, and a platform for innovative methods in the production, consumption and packaging of modern dance music.
