Droidroy is a young artist from Tokyo, Japan creating portraits of urban solitude and detachment/attachment to society. He has released on several labels including Pure Life, Infinito Audio, and Ephemeral Dream from Ukraine as well as a few singles with London based Dream Catalogue.
On his album “東京午前零時, ’which translates to ‘Tokyo Midnight’ you will find the young artist paying homage to 80’s ambient music as well as cyberpunk and science fiction tropes. Sound clips of rain and sci-fi chatter are heard throughout the album projecting a world of neon and artificially conjured dreams to the listener, which take them on a lucid and hallucinogenic trip throughout the album. Over the past few years a genre has slowly grown called “dreampunk” which is music for dreams expressing themes of love, nostalgia, romance, as well as dealing with the rise of technology and the way it impacts our lives day to day. These themes can all be heard throughout “東京午前零時” giving way for the listener to reflect personally on these concepts and by the time the album is over, you will realize it was perhaps, a dream.
