Forming in 1996, Brisbane 3-piece, gota cola found their sound rehearsing at Secuumb Space; a warehouse art space co-founded by bassist/vocalist and visual artist, Alex (Lexie) Gillespie. The space was a creative hub to countless exhibitions and events and is currently the combined office space of the Brisbane APRA/AMCOS office and Q Music. 



Alex, Tylea and Skritch rehearsed here regularly dodging the wandering and restless spirits of occupants past and the itchy dust of pigeons, to make themselves vaguely ready for studio recording heaven. 



Their first recording experience happened to be as willing guinea pigs for a newly opened recording studio owned by Brisbane drummer and self-proclaimed Dirt Bag, Martin Lee. The studio was aptly entitled, "the Dirty Room". 

The recording and studio experiment was conducted by ARIA-AWARD winning producer, Magoo and the process helped develop the band’s sonic awareness. The Dirty Room became a hive of activity for Brisbane recording artists in the late 90s, including Custard for their album, "Loverama". The building is now the home of MIC in Berwick St, Fortitude Valley. 




The collaboration between Magoo, Skritch, Tylea and Alex helped shape gota cola's direction and sound for the upcoming years, earning them favourable attention from 4ZZZ FM, national community radio and Triple J as well as multiple support slots and tours all over the country. 



The 5-track EP captures gota cola's raw, floating experimental bass, delayed dub whispers, grinds and precision rhythmic pulses. It is a piece of Brisbane 90s history; an ode to a grungier less developed Fortitude Valley.
