Lazy Days is delighted to welcome New Zealander, Berlin based producer Philippa to the family. A breath of fresh air in the current musical landscape, her sudden rise on the scene in the last few years might make you think she’s a newcomer, but her story tells otherwise.
 
Going back to the late 90s in Auckland New Zealand, she held many residencies, opening up for international acts such as Derrick Carter, Carl Craig, François K, and even a certain Fred Everything! Her early influences included Chicago House and the early french touch sound of Motorbass. She was also working at BPM Record Store and a host/dj on national radio (George FM).
 
Not content with the status quo and charmed by the idea of European dancefloors, she left it all behind to relocate in Berlin in 2013. As far removed from her comfort zone as possible. In a city where everyone is an aspiring DJ, she put her own DJ career on pause to work as a teacher at Catalyst - Institute for Creative Arts & Technology. Having access to studios and musical equipment, she spent her weekends there learning about synthesizers and samplers and sound design. That’s where she developed her unique, very musical and organic brand of House Music, using both samples and live instruments as well as synthesizers.
 
In 2019, she established her label At Peace to release her first EPs. Since then, she’s had acclaimed releases on labels such as Sloth Boogie, Razor n Tape, Deeppa and of course Freerange, with a notable recent collaboration with label boss, and all-around House hero, Jimpster for their 300th release. She was also asked to remix New Zealand’s Fat Freddy’s Drop, Roach Motel (Defected/FAITH) and James Curd feat. Robert Owens.
 
The EP opens up in beauty with the title track, Blue Skies, driven by a live bass, rolling high hats and piano hooks. The strings come in gradually to introduce the bluesy vocal sample.
“Sunshine, blue skies. I want to go outside”.

Darlin’ is next with its delicate shuffle jazz brush snares. Once again, live bass, piano and vocal samples are part of the offering.

Listen For A Heart Sound drives us home with a light jazzy rhythm section, live bass, plenty of guitar and Rhodes solo.

On remix duty, we have none other than the dynamic Dutch duo FOUK bringing their “straight to the dancefloor” remixing skills on Blue Skies. Known for their live sounding funk driven sound, they released on Dam Swindle’s Heist Recordings, Shall Not Fade, Razor-N-Tape, and their own OUTPLAY and have remixed Joey Negro (Z), Kraak & Smaak & Groove Armada.
