“Leenalchi has changed the way I think about music and Korea. I have never heard anything quite like this.” - Brian Eno
This is the first full-length release from South Korea’s beloved pansori psych-pop band available worldwide.
The release follows an extremely successful and eventful year for LEENALCHI — as if that Brian Eno quote didn't make it clear enough. They had their first-ever North American tour, opening for Japanese Breakfast at Stern Grove, and in the fall, they'll be on the East Coast, including opening for Geese on October 2.
LEENALCHI is led by the great composer Jang Young-Gyu, who has undoubtedly scored all your favorite Korean horror movies, including The Wailing, Train To Busan, and the Good, The Bad, The Weird.
Sugungga sounds like animals talking to each other over tripped-out bass lines. It gets its name from the old Korean folk tale about a clever and loyal turtle who tries to lure a rabbit underwater and into the lair of a Dragon King who has come down with an illness that can only be cured by the rabbit’s liver. What is the fate of the rabbit? And what’s the deal with this intrepid, adventurous Turtle? Consider brushing up on your Korean to find out.
