Lindblom & Lindblom return with another dose of instrumental noise rock, and it is in equal measures a continuation of their 2014 debut album “Sturm und Drang” and a sharp left turn into weirdness. “Obducenten & Allmänläkaren” finds the brotherly duo of Rickard and Robert Lindblom fleshing their sound out, making for a more fully realized and dynamic batch of songs. “Obducenten” being a wild ride through duelling guitar lines, abrupt starts and stops, staccato riffing and a roaring crescendo, while “Allmänläkaren” plods along at a more leisurely pace—though no less intense—pummeling the senses through the slow burn of relentless repetition rather than a sudden explosion.

In ten brief minutes Lindblom & Lindblom pack in everything one could ask for from a noise rock record of this particular pocket of the sub-genre in the late mid-2010s. It is also a reminder that instrumental music can be both complexly layered and textured as well as firmly rooted in punk and with a sense of humour shining through.

And then there’s “Other Sides of Obducenten & Allmänläkaren”—a companion piece to the main single. These have the drums played at half-tempo and the guitars and bass introducing variations on the riffs and melodies, opening up new dimensions and alternately complements and contradicts the other version. It’s like in a dream where you’re in a place you know well, yet everything is slightly off and amusingly confusing.

The two versions are also designed to be played simultaneously on separate sound systems for a truly mind-bending and overwhelming experience. Ideally, the speakers should be placed diametrically opposed from one another in the room. Feel free to experiment with volume settings and the positioning of you, the listener.

AND THEN, there's the drone version, which reduces the songs to ambient soundscapes, lone guitars and processed drums. If the Other Sides versions are like being stuck in a dream, this one is like falling asleep in a vat of syrup. Play this alongside either or both of the other versions and lose your mind.

Gimmicks aside, at the end of the day, this is a couple (well four… or six, depending on how you count) of fun, noisy rock songs to help us all get through life. We wrote them because we had to. This is what we wanted to hear and no one else would play, and it turned out so good we figure you all should get in on it as well.
