During the dark days of the pandemic I began a collaboration with my friend, producer and multi-instrumentalist Iain Ross, on several songs I had written over the previous year that had been lingering in a corner of my studio, gathering dust.

I was stuck in Normandy and Iain on his boat in London, where he has a small studio. Armed with only my vocals and a simple guide guitar track which I had recorded here at home in France, Iain began the creative process of weaving a tapestry around the songs and bringing them out into the light.

Mark Fry’s 1972 debut album, the acid-folk benchmark ‘Dreaming With Alice’, was followed four decades later by a critically acclaimed 2011 collaboration with The A. Lords, the pastoral ‘I Lived In Trees’, and a further album inspired by the life of Saint-Exupéry, ‘South Wind, Clear Sky’, both released on Second Language.
