“Everyone and their dog has covered John Lennon - but nobody’s ever done it like this.”
Jon MacNeill, Here, Fredericton

“Wow, that was live folks, what you just heard was absolutely live. Fabulous!”
Jian Ghomeshi, CBC Q (Shine On in-studio performance).

After a successful summer of unforgettable concerts, Michael Occhipinti & Shine On:
The Universe of John Lennon, are booking festival and concert dates for 2013.

Released in July 2012, Shine On re-imagines John Lennon’s solo and Beatles songs as everything from New Orleans funk to modern jazz to African/Delta blues to sophisticated pop. Using a stellar group of musicians who all have a flare for crossing genres and interpreting songs, Shine On played to enthusiastic crowds at theaters and festival stages across Canada this summer, and is now booking dates for 2013.

“the music was fabulous, particularly on quieter tunes like Across the Universe and Working Class Hero when we could hear all the musicians and fully appreciate Occhipinti’s creative re- imagining of these songs, not to mention (in the case of those two songs) Elizabeth Shepherd’s sublime vocals....
This was a great show and they’ve produced a superb album that I highly recommend.” Rick Gibbs, Island Jazz, Victoria

“Only at a jazz festival would a New Orleans second-line beat mix with John Lennon's Whatever Gets You Through The Night, and make sense. Drummer Mark Kelso opened the tune, the closing number of the concert tribute to Lennon's music, with an infectious beat that he and bassist Roberto Occhipinti held down like a couple of Big Easy stalwarts to anchor the song that was one of the highlights of the show.”
Chris Smith, Winnipeg Free Press

“Featuring “Tomorrow Never Knows,” the one chord song turned into an ambient collection of sound. The lush, multi-layered, psychedelic rock arrangements traded in the stand up bass for an electric and upped the tempo. Heavy drums, amped guitar feedback, stellar vocals, random keys, rampant tambourine and piercing trumpet; to create noise! Beautiful noise! “And now for the antidote,” Occhipinti chimed in when the musical riot ended. Playing Lennon’s favourite composition, “Across the Universe” not an arm hair in the tent didn’t prick up to Shepherd’s soulful rendition.”
Jess Spoto, Guff Magazine, Halifax

Michael Occhipinti & Shine On pull off the rare feat of reinventing Lennon's music in new, unexpected, and imaginative ways. The spectacular musicians & vocalists in the band have collectively received over 20 JUNO Awards (Canada's Grammy) and are all key players in Toronto's thriving music scene. Together they've created an album that’s strikingly original and eclectic, with great guitar work.
