A deeply personal work of art, The Way Out serves as a guide and metaphor for both personal and societal mental health. Howell envisions himself, along with the rest of the world, hopelessly lost in a dark forest, searching desperately for some salvation.

Striking a fine line between mayhem and beauty, The Way Out showcases Howell’s unique brand of progressive metal. From the blistering guitar attack on tracks such as The House is On Fire and Intruder, to the more poignant Pathfinder and Option Three – Acceptance, the album is never far away from its many twists and turns. Highlights include the genre-bending No Money in Philosophy, the aching serenity and crushing devastation of Hope Only Goes So Far, and the final epic track, Logic Dictates.

Several renown musicians complement Neil on this journey: Award-winning blues artist and vocalist Lisa Mann (Splintered Throne, White Crone), Mad Scientist Dorn, Alex Parkinson (Mothman and the Thunderbirds), and Egor Lappo.

My influences are too vast to name; I love rock, metal, alternative, classical, folk, and everything in between. And I want to make it all. I follow my instincts and hope to produce something new and yet totally familiar. I hope you can find something here that you like.
