The lake is singing tonight», someone told me. This is a very special phenomenon that happens when winter sets in and the cold settle over the nordic landscape. I decided to record these magical sounds one night in late November. The moon was full and the temperature had just crawled below -10c.

The recordings made that night was the foundation for what would become LYD. Lyd simply means sound in Norwegian, and that’s the base of the concept. I started out with the Finnish traditional instrument kantele, and it evolved into using most of the instruments I can and can’t handle. As the track evolved, I realized I can’t put any limitations on myself with this piece. Therefore you get a mix of traditional and modern instruments, along with natural ambiance and white noise - anything that creates a sound.
