'Death. It can be perceived in two ways. Metaphorical, when the very fact of death did not take place but the thing or person ceases to exist in our lives, disappears, we stop our interest in them, forget about them, memories go away. Literal, when death is real and looks us straight in the eye. Death is a loss and you have to be reconciled with loss. Death is the end and beginning. What's next?'
On June 27, 2019, we will be witnessing another important premiere at Opus Elefantum. OEC this year has already noted its presence, releasing the well-received material of the incinerated, spectacular work of Jurga and the most important discovery - two fascinating materials from the Baltyk.
This time OEC again gives us a debut, it is Virgo Mortis, the creator from the distant mountains, where he was born under the sign of Virgo. This anonymous creator has created a short EP that musically crosses the stylistics of shoegaze, post-rock or dirty coldwave. You can hear inspiration from such artists as - Chelsea Wolfe, A Perfect Circle, Thom Yorke or Corbin. The album, though inaccessible and sometimes heavy, is however oddly melancholic and melodic.
"Virgo et Mortis", because that's what the EP is called, explores the topic of death and its mysteries. Death is the end and the beginning. What's next? Virgo tries to answer the question by referring to the themes of thanatology and astrology, the echoes of which can be found both in the texts, but also in the whole graphics setting. Intertextuality helps to present the issue from different perspectives, making Virgo Mortis a creation composed of many thoughts on the same subject. Above all floats characteristic for musicians of Opus Elefantum element of mystery and heavyweight. This burden comes from metal provenance of the music accompanying the author throughout the creative period. The means of expression used to represent the recipient of the philosophy of the album are passed through a multitude of effects, muffled guitar, intertwined vocals or disorienting samples, haunting the composition at the least expected moment.
Opus Elefantum is an artistic collective, which unites under its wings several projects.
