Ortem 16 is reaching for new levels with Lambent Heights.
Lambent Heights is a new side project, exploring detachment, depersonalisation, false perceptions and dream like states. This is a new moniker for Necrotype and starts off in dark territory with a trip into ‘Her Television’. It starts with with ominous radiophonic style synths and progresses into rolling autonomic style drums. The track builds and feels like multiple television screens are all colliding at once confronting the listener to hear multiple sound streams all at once.
‘Keep Off The Rocks' is a warning as the bell tolls and reversed strings and vocals battle with each other. The tribal beat keeps time and whilst it does keeps everything on track. Light and airy synths waft through, maintain calm and combine with the jarring elements to help reach our destination.
A manic metronome and held pad introduce ‘A Balloon’. An electronic buzz offers up a childlike melody and a rolling baseline which infuse with a steady kick and lush layered percussion. The track has a familiar dream like quality and allows one to look in on oneself. The dream is interrupted by breaks and drums and usher in a female vocal and a significantly more upbeat scenario.
‘Fata Morgana’ continues into the realm of mythology and mysticism and creates the illusion of medieval legends. Echoing pipes, ethereal pads and breaks form a mirage, a magical, brooding presence.
