I started this little project to distract myself from another project ("the Real album" (Pacing LP2)). I was getting a little intense about it. I mean, I had opinions about guitar tone. It was beginning to become a bit unfun. I don't want things to be unfun! I already have a job. I am presumably doing this because I like it. And frankly, it's the only thing keeping me going half the time so if I f it up by making it unfun I am pretty screwed.
So here we are. 9 of the Pacing-est Pacing songs ever made. Most of these songs would have died on my harddrive or in my diary due to their not being a "real song" if they hadn't been rescued by this project. Most of them were made pretty quickly. They are the kind of songs that write themselves - the ones where you get an idea and sit down and in 30 minutes you have a song, but then you can't seem to ever actually finish the song because every time you go back to it you seem to make it worse.
They are small ideas. They don't tie back to some grand elaborate map of concepts (get your ass ready for Pacing LP2). They are uncomplicated. And I love them all, wholly and uncomplicatedly.
Pacing is the songwriting and recording project of Katie McTigue (she/her). Various Small Flames wrote that she “follows in the playful, tongue-in-cheek tradition of the likes of Kimya Dawson, yet always nudges the ideas further to be more than mere twee humour or sardonic fun.” Fans and new listeners alike often remark that her anxious, confessional lyrics are "a little too relatable."
