At Massproduktion’s 40 years jubilee Lars Bygdén was a surprise guest at Red Meccas live set and did a great version of Brända Barns iconic song Centrum. Jan of Red Mecca was a member of the influential post-punk band that did one album in 1983 and was dubbed the future hope of Swedish post-punk. Lars released his fourth and most successful solo album - Dark Companion – last year that resulted in fantastic reviews and touring all over Europe.
The version of the song on the gala made such an impact that we felt it had to be recorded. So they did. A unique version that takes the original song into a new musical context.
Red Mecca have recently released their latest album Truth that have received great reviews and Lars have a celebrated mini-album out– The Folk Companion - where his songs seamlessly mix with Swedish folk tradition.
Susanne Jonsson and Jan Strandqvist is Red Mecca. Two creative souls found a common playground for their ideas. Jan has a background in one of Sweden’s most influential punk/post-punk band – Brända Barn – and the meeting of his rough background with the vocals of Susanne creates fantastic musical landscapes.
