“Organized Grime 2” serves as the sequel to SPeeKa’s 2017 EP of the same title. The 11-track album serves, as described by SPeeKa, as an ode to both his love for Hip-Hop and Kwaito culture and a tribute to his late father, who appears on the album's artwork. The project’s intro, titled “Tlhoka Pelaelo”, perfectly sums up SPeeKa’s journey through the South African Hip-Hop scene through the years – touching on his music production, his time on iconic SA Hip-Hop radio show The Full Clip and his online series Sotra Cyphers. Listeners are then greeted with an epic Boom Bap experience in the form of the track “Amy” featuring gifted Soweto MCs Fergason and Infektist – setting the tone for the project.
The first “Organized Grime” project featured only artists hailing from Soweto. In the sequel, in addition to more exceptional Soweto MCs such as Mthizo, Impakt, Jimmy Wiz, and One Way – with cuts from legendary DJ Deeboi Chiefrocka, SPeeKa also reaches out to more hoods from Gauteng and beyond with appearances from fellow The Full Clip alumni Mickey-M, super talented singer/rapper Firdy, Papa Koli and veteran multi-talented artist Sizwe Alakine representing hoods from the East Rand. Undisputed punchline king N’veigh and talented Idols finalist and rapper Ora Kola representing PTA. Maftown spitter Earl Kay. Powerful poet Kush Mahleka from the Eastern Cape, and legendary MC Hymphatic Thabs representing Lesotho.
Inspired mostly by South African Hip-Hop from the early 2000s, “Organized Grime 2” serves as the perfect tribute to the era where it all began for most artists who would become prominent in the early to mid-2010s, with skits added that give a clearer context to the tracklist.
I, Thapelo Modiela (also known as “Speeka”) am a music producer born and raised in Soweto. I began producing in 2005, while in the 11th Grade of High School, after my father bought me my first Desktop Computer.
I also direct and do video editing and am the creator of a Cypher series called "Sotra Cyphers", of which I shoot and edit myself, available on my YouTube channel.
