Havelka / Havel - Vanishing Mountain (2024, mc / digital)

Vanishing Mountain is a new collaboration between Vojtěch Havel a Václav Havelka, which follows the traces trampled by Havel's decades of playing and improvising on the theme of esoteric drone meditations.

Vojtěch Havel (born 1962 in Prague) has been a vital part of the Czech underground since the early 1980's. Havel's main instrument is viola da gamba, a historical string instrument, which he mainly challenged for years together in duo with his wife Irena. Their prolific musician approach led to many great records (and many must haves for fans of Czech esoteric underground) and several notable collaborations, especially with recently passed away Oldřich Janota (Vojtěch and Irena has accompany Janota on some of his strongest outputs, we recommend to find the live audio document of Janota playing live with Havels in Chlumec, 1989). Vojtěch Havel and his wife Irena continues to be active musicians, they have contributed soundtrack to Czech independent movies Křižáček and Zpráva o záchraně mrtvého, recently released new album of piano duets (Four Hands) and they often perform live in duo or in collaborations.

This new album sees Havel collaborating live with Václav Havelka (on guitar) and his son Šimon Havelka (electronics / percussion). Havelka is not a new name to Stoned to Death history as he already released two solo experimental albums here (2015, 2019) but also a strong album of Indian mantras reinterpretations (Golden Spine - Universal Prayer). Havelka's solo outputs have a lot in common with Vojtěch Havel's themes as they are both looking to find their inner selves in music while stepping through uncharted territories and at times of heavy climate changes and declining wilderness they are both embracing to the nature and its spirituality.
