STUPOR MENTIS 5th album is a tribute to the "Sturm und Drang" movement of the second half of the 18th century in Germany.
In Germany, the phenomenon had specific features because the revival of German literature was still recent, several first-rate authors were directly interested in it and a revival of poetic inspiration emerged.
The English pre-Romanitism and the " Sturm und Drang " were born of a reaction against the philosophy of the Enlightenment, first of all because one refuses to believe that man is so much a being of reason or even risks becoming one, then because the poetic virtues of reasonable poetry seem limited, the time of the classical rules seems over and nature has become the rallying word of the young generation.
Freedom is the central value.
The movement rejects the social and moral conventions that limit the development of the person as well as a moral art that depicts characters far from any concrete experience. The " Sturm und Drang " is aesthetically opposed to the dominant literary and artistic tradition and to a French influence, especially in the dramatic genre, judged courtesan and desiccant.
This desire for freedom is accompanied by a new interest in nature. The characters can express their feelings more freely when they are alone in nature, but it is on society that they seek to act and their vision of nature is influenced by their relationship to the social world around them.
Stupor Mentis is a Gothic / Neo-classical duet formed in 2015. The general atmosphere of their music, foggy, oppressive sometimes turn into lyrical musing, escorting you to the edge of the "Stupor Mentis".
This latin term refers to this special mental "no-being" state characterised by a complete suspension of intelectual activities ; then, transported out of yourself.
