How to describe the band? You could try genre (sophistipop? retro-pop?) but they’ve never done genre. ‘80s throwback’ is satirical while ‘absurd anachronism’ is bordering on the brutal. Historical maybe. Formed 1985, signed to Cherry Red, Radio Khartoum and Elefant, 15 albums and many laughs. But can you tell a cake by its icing? Better to sample the merchandise.
