14 albums in 22 years is no small feat, but Bay Area power pop veteran JEFF SHELTON admits it's in his blood. "Writing and recording songs is still as inherent as ever...." Shelton confesses, "although the trials of juggling work, personal and family life can make the end result a little more drawn out." Most of the tracks on Expected Outcomes - the 14th full-length album from Shelton's musical nom de plume The Well Wishers, have been floating around and slowly coming together over the past 18 months - not long after the release of his previous effort, 2024's Just So You Know.
As with standard Well Wishers fare, the tracks on Expected Outcomes jump from the speakers with melodic blasts of punchy power pop and strummy jangle. A sonic platter that lands somewhere between Husker Du and REM, but also references cornerstone 90s influences like The Posies, Superdrag, Sloan and Matthew Sweet.
Once again, Shelton is joined by a small cadre of guest artist contributions, including shred-ready guitar solos from local pals Charles Winmill and Robert Riley (Droneyard), and piano/keys from San Francisco-by-way-of-Philly solo artist Shwa Losben.
Based on a solid foundation of melody, songcraft, and the ever important "musical hook", the Well Wishers' deliver a warm, full-bodied sound and engaging take on the typical power pop formula. In addition to ten full studio albums, the Well Wishers have also had music featured on prominent major network TV shows including ABC’s “Revenge” and NBC’s hit series “Parenthood”.
